US Consulate Celebrates Nigerian Indigent Students, Grant them Full Scholarships

The Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate General Lagos is set to hold its 2017 Pre-Departure Orientation Programme for Nigerian students departing to attend various U.S. universities this fall on Tuesday, July 18 this year at the Multi-Purpose Room, U.S. Consulate General, 2 Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos at 9am.

Interestingly, this year, eight indigent but brilliant Nigerian students, who received financial aid through the EducationUSA Opportunity Fund, were granted full scholarships totaling $356, 450 by various U.S. universities.

Now, the eight students had their up-front costs of obtaining U.S. admission, including testing, application fees, and airfare covered by the EducationUSA Opportunity Fund.

The pre-departure orientation prepares dozens of Nigerian students for their entry into American culture and enables them to make the most of their U.S. educational experience.

According to the US Consulate Office, sstudents within the Lagos Consular District ware expected at the programme. And there will be platform for interactive sessions on topics such as travel planning, adjusting to life in America, and F-1 visa rules for international students.
