WHO Advises against Powdered Instant Formula

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that powdered infant formula is not sterile, adding that it may contain bacteria that can cause serious illness in infants.

Lagos State Validates Human Resource for Health, Task Shifting Policy

The Lagos State government has validated the Human Resource for Health (HRH) Strategic Plan and Task Shifting Task Sharing (TSTS) Policy for the state in its quest to provide quality healthcare services for all.

The state partnership with Save the Children (SCI); the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative 2 (NURHI2) and fhi360, has carried out a five-year implementation framework for human resource for Health.

According to the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, Lagos State has recognised the central and strategic role of the health workforce in the provision of the required manpower for the delivery.

Scientists Advocate for Funding of Medical Research

To ensure national development and effective response to disease outbreaks, Nigerian scientists and their counterparts from the United States Centre for Disease Control (CDC) have advocated adequate funding of innovative medical research.

Their call was directed to the three tiers of government, international and private organisations to provide adequate fund for innovative medical research to promote national development at the fourth International Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) in Lagos.

Female Lawyer in Police Net for Assaulting Teenage House Help

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Edgal Imohimi, has arrested a female legal practitioner, Tolu Olaoye of No 5 El- Shaddai Crescent near Unique Estate Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos for allegedly abusing of her 15 years old house help, Abigail Opebiyi.

The CP, known for his prompt actions on all issues concerning domestic violence and abuse, ordered for her arrest after seeing the picture of the victim trending on the internet inflicted on her by the female lawyer Tolu.

Edgal was said to have ordered operatives of the Command to rescue the victim and fish out the suspect, who is now undergoing interrogation at the Gender section of State Police Command, Ikeja.

According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, the suspect would be charged to court on Monday December 18 this year.

Cardoso Teacher Flogs Hell out of JSS Student

13 years old Moses Mathew of Cardoso High School Badia, Lagos has just been physically abused and redesigned by his teacher for reacting after a student stepped on his wound.

The aggressive teacher, Mr. Ighalo, who could not control his temper, was said to have descended on Moses. He locked him up and flogged him without mercy. This was according to Chosen Child Orphanage in Ajeromi Ifelodun.

Child Protection Network (NGO), a nongovernmental organisation fighting for the right of the child in the country, has stepped into the case to ensure the teacher faces the law.

U.S. Boosts Nigeria’s Counter-Narcotics Efforts, Donates Vehicles, Tactical Equipment to NDLEA

As part of its continuing support of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the United States government has donated seven vehicles and a variety of technical equipment to the Nigerian counter-narcotics agency.

The items and equipment include: (3) Honda Accord vehicles; (3) Toyota Hilux trucks;  (1) Toyota Hiace Van; a Smith Detection Body Scan Unit; (16) Laptop Computers; (16) i2 Analyst Notebook Software; (20) Digital Cameras; (5) Electric Bill Counters, and (25) Battery Power Supply Backup. The vehicles and equipment were funded through the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) Counter-narcotics and Transnational Threats Program (CTTP).

At a brief ceremony in Lagos, Consul General F. John Bray emphasised the importance of law enforcement cooperation between the United States and Nigeria in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria.
