45 Years Old Arrested for Raping 12 Years Old

Rebecca Ejifoma

45 years old Mr. Samuel Ukpa has been arrested by the Alade Division, Shomolu Station for allegedly raping a 12 years old girl (name withheld) at 39 Oluwadare street Fola Agoro Shomolu, Lagos.

On 24th August this year, Ukpa, also known as Baba Emma, was said to have lured the victim into the loo while she was washing corn bag for her mother, who sells boiled corn.

According to witnesses and neighbours, while Anuoluwapo went into the compound, Ukpa took him into the loo unknowing a neighbour was in the other bathroom having a shower.

A witness said: “I was surprised to see Anuoluwapo being defiled in the loo in groin voice. And when I got to know Ukpa asked her to pass through the drain channel of the toilet to link her to the other toilet, I raised an alarm. That was how other  residents were alerted of this mischief.”

The timely intervention of the Alade division, shomolu Policemen on patrol rescued the situation by arresting the suspect who was transferred to gender unit of the Police Command Ikeja for necessary action and prosecution.

The Child Protection Network (CPN) Coordinator, Shomolu, Comrade Toyin Okanlawon told Healthmundo that the suspect was alleged to be a serial rapist who has been luring little girls for sex within the community for years. “The survivor needs psychosocial support though she looks stable.”

Now, the victim’s mother, Mrs. Elizabeth is a petty trader in one of the Institutions. She would leave home as early as 5am and return late at 11pm daily, which is a trait of child neglect. But due to Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASSU) strike she was able to witness the incident.

Okanlawon added: “Further investigation revealed that residents have been seeing the victim and Ukpa at different corners in the community and enticing her with goodies. But the mother said she cant even be talking of all sort that has been said about the suspect which came to the known after her child's incident.”

The survivor has been treated at Mirabel Centre LASUTH, other medical findings will be sent to the gender unit.

Mrs Elizabeth is not willing to press charges against the accused. But there is zero tolerance to rape and defilement and the interest of the child is key to the Police and the CPN. Hence, the court hearing will hold on 12th October this year at the Ikeja magistrate court as confirmed by Mrs. Elizabeth.
